ANOTHER SUBWAY EXPERIENCE ...

Assuming the train we rode in the Chicago area could also be called a 'subway' -- we had a 'subway' experience of a different sort last night.  Still are actually.

Rhiannon was still here.  It was nearing Sabbath.  We were all hungry.  Randy went to Subway near us.

Within an hour after he ate his turkey breast sandwich and literally minutes of when Rhiannon left - Randy started to say how he didn't feel so good.  He got sicker and sicker.  Pale white, throwing up, thought he was going to pass out from dizziness ... repeat ... repeat ... add in diahrea (sp?) at some point and repeat the whole ordeal all through the night.

This morning he still feels nasty though the throwing up seems to have calmed down into alternate cases of burping and hiccups.  Still has the diahrea (sp?).

I wanted to take him in last night to the emergency room or at least the Urgent Care place down the street.  But he refused.  He was sick enough he didn't want me to go to bed an leave him down here alone.  So I stayed.  He's not normally like that.

When we got up to our bedroom it was FREEZING in there.  We'd had some nice weather and the window was open and last evening the arctic blew back in and dropped the temps 30 degrees.  So he was horribly chilled (he had a fever to boot) for a time.

Take away what I just said about the throwing up going away -- 9:56 a.m. and it's back.

Needless to say he isn't going to church.  I stayed home from SS to be with him.  I was going to go to church.  Think now I'll run drop some stuff off and come back.

To read with any sort of organization -- you'll need to scroll down to the first post I made today. TOO much to say!

Post #4) TODAY'S FINALE ... finally! WINDY CITY, huh?

Driving and talking is profitable.

It occurred to me on the drive that if I would empty out under my buffet (and get rid of a few things), move my games to that spot, I would have an EMPTY useable shelf in my pantry.  (Which was really crammed packed with stuff and more stuff.)

So having taken off Wednesday as well as Monday and Tuesday - I decided that I would do just that.  I pulled out the initial seeds for a yard sale (from under the buffet).

Then Rhiannon got going.  Here is where the story began all those posts ago -- how does she do it all -- where does she get the strength and stamina?

It is/was a case of one thing leading to another and then another.  She kept pulling stuff out, washing, attempting to organize (my house is CHAOS - dirty filthy CHAOS -- I'm so embarrassed, though in my defense I have said it has been in need of a deep clean -- so I knew it was dirty filthy CHAOS).

Her plan was to leave on Thursday.  She decided to spend another night because of the enormity of the task.  Of course I'm back at work so she is tackling this all herself.  We did paint a pantry last night, and I putzed a little.  After being at work since 7:30 a.m. I was tired.  She was tired.

BUT IT IS LOOKING SO MUCH BETTER.  She says she is staying until 6-ish today.  Then she heading to Omaha to pick up her hubby from the airport for a joyful little family reunion.

PUBLICALLY let me state a HUGE thank you to my daughter.  Love you as much as all of the 'gross' you found.  And you KNOW that's a lot!

Post #3) PIAZZA'S HIT THE SPOT .. and yet more!

By the time we walked to Piazza's which wasn't all that far from where we were, we were ready to eat.  BUT not before we added a bit of hilarity to our diary of events!

They had a revolving door.  We had 3 adults and one baby in a good sized stroller.  I revolved through.  Randy followed with the stroller sort of folded up.  UHM, but not folded up enough.  He got wedged in the revolving door unable to go forward or backward.  He had an amused "oh know, now what" look to him!  And Rhiannon was outside laughing her head off and I was inside laughing my head off.

Finally he pushed through and got back OUT.  They opened a door to the side and let him in through it.  Oh my it was funny.

After we were seated - Rhiannon almost caught her hair on fire (seriously) in the table candle.  Thankfully she didn't, but following the episode with the revolving door - it seemed funny that another 'near tragedy' had occurred.

Meal was divine.  Company was MARVELOUS.  Baby stayed cute.  We wandered back to the train station (several blocks away) and proceeded back to the car and headed home.  I don't remember what time we got home.  I know that it was after Tuesday became Wednesday!

FUN TRIP.

Post #2) THE FUN CONTINUES ...

Sunday we (Nick, Rhiannon, me and Jaimee) went to their house to pack up some stuff in a truck that Nick had borrowed. I was pathetic little help, I'm ashamed to say. For some reason every joint in my body over the last week feels like it is atrophied (is that the right word?) STIFF. Can barely move. I'm talking toes, ankles, knees, hips, elbows, shoulders ... EVERYTHING. It's really disturbing.

Anyway, even though I didn't do as much as I had wanted to - the other 3 were amazing. They moved all manner of super heavy stuff. The truck got loaded to the gills and then Rhiannon rented another small U-Haul and we still have a couple of vans ful of stuff to bring to the house. But Randy and I can take our van up a couple of times and load it full. (The garage is packed -- needless to say -- whoo hoo for spring so I can park outdoors again!)

The next adventure of Rhiannon's visit was that we were going to go to IKEAon Monday (in Schaumburg a Chi. suburb) and Chicago on Tuesday. Randy decided to join us. He wasn't all that hep on the IKEA visit. We found a Tiger Direct for him on Tuesday which he wasn't able to spend nearly enough time in.

He held fast to his vow not to whine though and it was fun to have him with.

We rode the train downtown. It wasn't nearly as 'scary' as the first time we rode it. The first time, it was like we were suddenly on a different planet or something that first time. It was crowded with all kinds of people who did not look, act, or smell like us. We loved it though. It was super interesting to see a different culture.

This time there were less people and more 'like us'.  That doesn't sound nice, I don't mean it in a bad way, but at least for me I felt like a fish out of water the first time.

None-the-less the train ride was fun, SO much less hectic and nerve-wracking than driving the car downtown would have been for those of us driving.  (Mark and Bellie went out the week before and fared well driving into town.  But he's a former "professional driver" ... ) anyway, we caught a bus to Navy Pier where we walked around and rode the GIANT ferris wheel (it's not a wheeee kind of ride, but rather a leisurely 7 minute ride so you can see the view).

They have a children's museum so we took Jaimee there. The lady at the front desk said "if you wait 35 minutes it is only $4, right now it will cost you $10). So we decided to wait.

Shortly before it was time to get in at the discounted rate - we heard a woman yelling. I'm not sure what she was yelling - probably "help". She and her little girl were riding up the escalator just outside the door. The little girl's clothes or arm or something got caught in the escalator and the escalator kept going. Randy and Rhiannon raced over, got the emergency button pushed and the escalator stopped.

Both mom and little girl (Britney) were shaken. Britney appeared to have a pinch that sort of skinned the top layer of her skin. I got a bandaid from the desk clerk which she didn't really need, but you know how bandaids miraculously cure stuff!!

Once mom recovered she told us she had a pass that she could take 3 people in with her for FREE. So three of us got in FREE with our new friends, and we only paid $4. Jaimee's favorite thing were the water things. She fished and splashed. Didn't have nearly enough time for her.

Then we wandered around downtown.  I love that.  I wouldn't want to live in it on a day-to-day basis, but the experience is fun.  We didn't shop anywhere because -- well, it was a budget concious trip for me anyway!

We were getting hungry.  Started looking at the different places to eat.  Asked a nice man in Borders (we weren't shopping - but going potty!) about a good place.  He recommended a restaurant in an old hotel.  We walked there and it LOOKED fancier than we were and the menu confirmed it!  So we left.

Finally asked a couple of policepeople (one girl/one boy) on bikes where a good place was.  They recommended PIAZZA's.  As it turned out it was the same exact restaurant Rhiannon and I went to a few years ago (after we stopped a cop and asked for a recommendation).  It was SO yummy.  At least mine was!

Baby J was the most perfect child through the whole ordeal of traveling and being lugged around.  She took everything in stride and we loved her all the more for that!

Taking my OWN potty break ... see ya in another blog-post!

Post #1) HITTING THE BIG CITY & OTHER FUN STUFF -

Well, if you follow my daughter's blog - you know that Ryan has been in Haiti this week.  We've really enjoyed reading his emails and are grateful for the invention of the INTERNET.  It would be really scary to have him far away and not have any contact.

So while he has been away, our precious wonderful HARDWORKING daughter has been at our house.  I don't know how she does it all.  Good thing she is physically fit.

She went to her house in Coralville on Friday to work on packing stuff up.  That day I had to work but took off in the afternoon to go up and get Jaimee.  (You get more done without a baby!!)

Jaimee and I went from there to the Veteran's Hospital to visit my parents, and got home about the same time Rhiannon did Friday night.  Jaimee was a little peach.  Aunt Mary Ellen and Uncle Joe brought in some Kentucky Fried Chicken and there were some biscuits in it.  The biscuit Jaimee ate was a great help to her ability to handle a long hospital visit.

Dad had surgery that morning.  He has had a bad foot that has an open wound that won't heal.  The situation was such that they were/are considering removing toes and/or part of the foot in order to help it heal.  They ran tests the week before and decided to do angioplasty (?) on the vein of his left leg - with the possibility of a stent.  We were quite concerned as dad wasn't feeling well and the scary thing was we don't want him to get infection.

What they ended up doing was to put a little do-hicky in a vein in his RIGHT leg and ran it across his body and down the left leg.  Found a 'rock solid' something in it (kind of like coral they said).  Ended up cutting a piece of his vein out and reconnecting it.  Surgery took from about 7:30 a.m. to well after 2 p.m.  The good news was that the blood flow was much improved.

Thanks to all the relatives who came up to visit and be with mom! You're the greatest.

I think I'll pause and let you take a potty break or something before I continue!
